ANCIENT GREEK VASE MINOAN STYLE
This vase totally represents the marine style characterized by the depiction of octopuses and other sea creatures. It developed around 1500 BC (New Palace period) and its origins probably come from Knossos. Marine-style pottery began to compete with older plant and flower designs and was exported from Crete throughout Greece. This vase shows the seabed where we can see octopuses, molluscs, algae and corals.
This ceramic was created and decorated entirely by hand (without the use of the wheel). It was then subjected to an antiquing process and finally cooked at a temperature of 950 for approximately 15 hours.
