SARDINIAN ARTISTIC CERAMICS The artefact reproduced here is inspired by a statuette called the Pomos idol, this is a prehistoric cruciform sculpture from the Chalcolithic period, c. 3000 BC, found near the Cypriot village of Pomos, exhibited today at the National Museum of Nicosia.
This idol depicts a woman with open arms, probably a symbol of fertility.
The statuette represented here was entirely modeled by hand, fired at a temperature of 950° for approximately 15 hours, then cold enamelled simulating a marble effect.
