Poseidon God of the Sea Greek Mythology Artistic Ceramics Crafts
Poseidon God of the Sea Greek Mythology Artistic Ceramics Crafts
The artefact represented here is inspired by another great figure of Olympus: Poseidon, (father of Triton). Many sacrifices were made in honor of this deity, especially horses. He was venerated by sailors who invoked him for protection during their sea voyages.
I chose to represent Poseidon with a trident in his hand, a symbol often used to recall his figure. The deity stands powerfully in an upright position to underline his predominance over all the seas and therefore his role as God of the sea. The colors I used, mainly blue and light blue, are intended to recall the color of the sea. The gold underlines its divine essence.
This artifact was modeled from a single block of clay, then subjected to a 950° firing for approximately 15 hours, then cold enamelled. The artifact is fixed on a wooden support.
