Pyx Ozieri Culture Pre-Nuragic vase Ceramics Sardinia Craftsmanship
Ancient Neolithic ceramic called "pyx" from the Ozieri culture, dated 3500/2700 BC
This pottery has decorative motifs such as stars, stylized ram's horns and protomes. This type of artifact was intended for funerary kit, that is, it had to accompany the deceased on the journey to the afterlife and food that would nourish the soul of the deceased was probably placed in this container. The Ozieri culture spread to Sardinia from 3200 BC. C to 2800 BC
This ceramic was created and decorated entirely by hand (without a potter's wheel). An antiquing technique was used which makes it very similar to the original, then fired at a temperature of 950° for approximately 15 hours.
