HALAF CULTURE CERAMIC STATUETTE

SARDINIAN ARTISTIC CERAMICS

This terracotta artefact is inspired in shape by that of numerous statuettes also called Venuses, dating back to the Neolithic (7000-1000 BC), belonging to the so-called Halaf culture.

An archaeological period in the history of Mesopotamia belongs to this culture, from Syria to Iraq, and it is from the latter that it takes its name due to the presence in it of a locality so called (Tell Halaf).

A female figure with characteristic shapes is represented here. The sculpture is completely naked, crouching with her arms folded to hold her very large breasts, in a particular position evocative of childbirth.

The ceramic was entirely hand-modelled, fired at a temperature of 950° for approximately 15 hours, then cold enamelled with marble effects.
