CRONUS KING OF THE GODS
According to Hesiod's Theogony (history of the gods), Cronus was the son of Uranus and Gaea. Uranus did not want the children generated with Gaea (Titans, Centimani and Cyclopes) to come to light. Consequently, to defend her children, she builds a weapon which Crono uses to emasculate his father. Even Cronus in turn, like his father Uranus, wants to suppress his children by devouring them. only Zeus, the last born, is saved by his mother as he is replaced with a stone.
The sculpture I created represents Cronus preparing to devour one of his children. The scene depicted has the aim of underlining the drama of the moment, highlighted by Crono's mouth wide open and the powerful arm with which he makes the gesture. The monstrosity of this action is also represented by the use of the color red as evidence of the blood shed.
This artefact was modeled from a single block of clay, was then subjected to a 950° firing for approximately 15 hours, then cold enamelled and fixed on a wooden support.
